2 Chainz and Lil Wayne Bring ‘Collegrove’ Concert to Atlanta via Tidal

Hip-hop fans in Atlanta recently received a memorable, two-for-one performance from two of the biggest artists of today: 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne.

The duel linked up to deliver a surprise, pop-up concert for subscribers of the streaming service Tidal, which was the music platform chosen for the release of the joint album “Collegrove,” which takes its title from 2 Chainz’s hometown of College Park, Ga., and Lil Wayne’s home in the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans.

Held at Atlanta’s famed Tabernacle concert facility, which was recently the site of the Atlanta stop on Future’s “Purple Reign” tour, the concert was streamed lived through Tidal.

In Tabernacle’s intimate setting, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne performed songs from both their joint album—including “Blue C-Note”and “Gotta Lotta,”— as well as from solo projects.

Lil Wayne performed many of his biggest hits, including “Im Goin’ In,” “A Milli,” “Lollipop” and “Steady Mobbin’, in addition to performing some of his best feature verses, including his verse from DJ Khalid’s “I’m on One” and from French Montana’s “Pop That.” He also treated the crowd to renditions of several of his most popular mixtape cover songs, including his take on Gucci Mane’s “Wasted.”

Lil Wayne was later joined on stage by Atlanta’s own Bobby V to perform their 2008 hit collaboration, “Mrs. Officer.”

2 Chainz ran through a list of his biggest hits, including “I’m Different,” “Birthday Song,”  “I Luv Dem Strippers,” “Where U Been, ”No Lie” and “Watch Out,” which closed the show.

The duel also paid tribute to recently deceased Atlanta rapper Bankroll Fresh, with Lil Wayne performing his verse from Bankroll Fresh’s “Hot Boy” remix and “Walked In,” and 2 Chainz being joined by several members of Street Execs as they performed the hook to “Takeover Your Trap.”

The “Collegrove” concert is the most recent event Tidal has held to boost its subscribers and brand awareness. In February, Tidal sponsored a concert from another Atlanta rapper, T.I., who held a pop-up concert at Atlanta’s Greenbriar Mall to mark his recent signing with Roc Nation management.
