Tensions and trolling were at an all-time at the pre-fight press conference for the Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley professional boxing match, set to take place Aug. 29 in Cleveland.

Paul, a YouTube star-turned-pro boxer, went pound-for-pound in trading barbs with Woodley, a former UFC titleholder Woodley who making his professional boxing debut.

Paul, who was joined onstage by “Problem Bot” — an eight-foot tall robotic figure that moves and gestures, laid into Woodley on everything from his finances, car and UFC career, while Woodley questioned the legitimacy of Paul’s boxing wins.

“When have you fought anybody of that caliber? Nate Robinson plays basketball. I knock people out for a living,” Woodley said.

Paul suggested Woodley was washed up and questioned whether he’s up to the challenge of beating him. “I saw fear in his eyes,” Paul told reporters. “I saw a man who just accepted a fight mostly for a paycheck. I saw a man who doesn’t have fight left in him.

Paul also got Woodley to agree to a bet that the loser of their bout would have to get the winner’s name tattooed on their body and upload a picture of it to Instagram. Woodley looked hesitant at first, but eventually agreed to the deal.

Paul and Woodley have been adversaries ever since Paul’s professional boxing match against Ben Askren, Woodley’s friend. Paul went on to knock Askren out in the first round. The win over Askren improved Paul’s pro boxing record to 3-0 with additional wins over retired NBA player Nate Robinson and YouTuber Ali Eson Gib.

Despite making a name for himself with UFC Welterweight title fights against Darren Till, Demian Maia, Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler, Woodley ended his UFC career on four consecutive losses—to Vicente Luque, Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns and Kamaru Usman—dating back to March 2019.

In preparation for his fight with Paul, Woodley has been training with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., a rival to Jake and his brother Logan. At the press conference, Woodley discussed the impact of the experience of training with the former boxing champ. (See video below)

In separate interviews with reporters, Paul discussed whether he thinks a fight between him and Mayweather will ever happen.

“I don’t think it’ll happen,” Paul said. “He wants me to cut down to 147 lbs, and then he’ll fight me. So, before he fought my brother, we were ‘fake fighters.’ And now, he will only fight Jake Paul if I cut to 147 lbs, which is physically impossible for me to cut that much.” (See video below)

Logan Paul went the distance with Mayweather in a June exhibition, but it was Jake’s hat-snatching from Mayweather that garnered most viral attention as it was a rare embarrassing moment for the former boxing champ.

Paul and Woodley are scheduled to meet in a 190-pound contest on Aug. 29 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, the hometown of Jake and Logan Paul. The event will air on Showtime pay-per-view.
