The world’s best athletes and biggest stars recently celebrated the best of moments of the year in sports at the 2019 ESPYS at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown LA.

On the heels of their Women’s World Cup victory, the U.S. women’s national soccer team took home several awards, including “Best Team” and “Female Athlete of the Year” for Alex Morgan.

NBA forward Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks won two awards for “Male Athlete of the Year” and “Best NBA Player.”

This year, the awards were hosted by comedian Tracy Morgan, who kept the crowd laughing with jokes about himself, and of course, the athletes in attendance.

Zion Williamson, who was drafted No. 1 by the New Orleans Pelicans in last month’s NBA draft, was named “Best College Athlete” for his outstanding freshman season at Duke.

Other winners include Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who won “Best NFL player” and Milwaukee Brewers slugger Christian Yelich, who earned the “Best MLB player” award.

NBA great Bill Russell was honored with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage for his dedication to fighting for social justice and ensuring opportunity for all young people. He was introduced by Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant and Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Tori Kelly performed the Mavis Staples classic, “In Times Like These” in his honor.

High school football coach Rob Mendez, who was born without arms or legs due to a rare disorder, won the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.

The event brought a mix of athletes, actors, musicians and more for fun night of celebration and reflection.
