The Latest on T.I. Concert Shooting

The fallout continues from Wednesday night’s shooting at a T.I. concert in New York, which left one person dead and three others wounded.

In a strange twist of events, Brookyn rapper Troy Ave., who was shot in the leg that night, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. A new video released by NYPD shows the 33 year-old Brooklyn rapper, whose real name is Roland Collins, firing into the crowd after an alleged squabble with the entourage of another Brooklyn rapper, Maino.

Troy Ave. may have inadvertently shot himself in the leg in addition to wounding several others, police said. His bodyguard, a 33-year-old man named Ronald McPhatter, known as Banga, was shot in the stomach and later died in the hospital, NYPD said. A 26-year-old female, who is said to be Maino’s girlfriend, was shot in the leg and a 34-year-old male was shot in the chest, but both are in stable condition.

Police are still analyzing ballistic evidence to determine if Troy Ave was the one who killed Banga. If it was determined he was the shooter of Banga, Troy Ave. could face a likely murder charge.

Troy Ave. had be rumored to being close to signing to T.I.’s Grand Hustle label but that signing has never been made official.

Though he’s yet to do an media interview on the shooting or speak with police, T.I. took to Twitter on Thursday to offer his condolences to McPhatter’s family, saying “rest in peace bro. God bless.“ He also posted a photo saying “My heart is heavy today. Our music is intended to save lives, like it has mine and many others. My heartfelt condolences to the family that suffered the loss & my prayers are with all those injured. Respectfully, Tip.”

Meanwhile, T.I., who has worked tirelessly to repair his image following several incidents with the law, including a 2007 arrest on Federal gun charges, was deemed unfit to perform at a graduation party in South Florida following the shooting. According to TMZ, event organizers have called off the concert and have demanded the $55,000 deposit they made back from T.I. Additionally, they found that the concert would not make for “a safe environment for students.”

Maino, who is alleged to be at the center of the incident, took to Instagram to deny any beef with Troy Ave., saying there were “no ‘ongoing beefs’ or ‘entourage issues,” adding that “it always has been and always will be good relations between myself AND MY TEAM and @TroyAve,” he wrote. “Our deepest sympathies again to family of Ronald McPhatter and a speedy recovery to Troy Ave.”
