The Latest on Mos Def US Ban

Fans of rapper Mos Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, are still unclear whether the 40 year-old Brooklyn native will be able to kick off his national tour, which was canceled earlier this month in what promoters cited as “legal” issues.

Mos was supposed to perform at the Together music festival in Boston, when promoters informed fans on its website that “due to immigration/legal issues Yasiin Bey is unable to enter back into the United States and his upcoming US tour has been canceled.”

Mos Def has lived in South Africa since 2009 and has been outspoken about the policies of the U.S. government. For example, some have speculated that he has been banned by the U.S. from reentering the country because of a July 2013 protest in which he underwent the force feeding procedures used by U.S. government officials in Guantánamo Bay in Cuba.

However, an American associate of Yasiin Bey recently refuted reports that the rapper was denied entry in the U.S., saying that he moved the dates to be able to work on other projects in Africa.

So far, Mos Def nor his reps have confirmed his travel status and/or when he’ll be back in the U.S.  We’ll be following..
