Few People of Color in Hollywood Director’s Chairs, Report Says

Last month, during his acceptance speech Spike Lee trolled Hollywood for its lack of diversity. Now, there’s statistics that quantifies just large Hollywood’s diversity problem has become.

According to a recent study from the Directors Guild of America, only 11.2 percent of the 376 directors of features released in 2013 and 2014 were minority males, and just 1.3 percent were minority females.

“The numbers indicate that women and minority directors are virtually shut out of this multi-billion dollar industry that has a deep financial and cultural impact on our global society. In order to make progress, the film studios need to take this information and commit to becoming real agents of change with solutions,” said DGA Diversity Task Force Co-Chair Todd Holland.
