(PHOTOS) Cross Colours Brings a Touch of Hip-Hop to LA Swim Week

Streetwear brand Cross Colours brought a touch of hip-hop to LA Swim Week, which featured the LA-based clothing label in this year’s presentation.

Known for its eye-catching colors and hip-hop inspired designs, the Cross Colours show featured many bold looks worn by a diverse set of models. Among the models was actor Terayle Hill, who kicked off the show modeling a black surf tank top and bright orange swim trunks.

Models in the show walked the runway to hip-hop, reggae and other modern music. Some models also put an animated touch on their photos by flicking their hair or switching up their poses for many photographers in attendance.

Popularized in the 1990s by such hip-hop artists as Tupac, Snoop Dogg and Will Smith, Cross Colours fell out of vogue in the early 2000s, as did many other legacy streetwear brands like FUBU, Karl Kani and others. However, the label has made a resurgence in recent years, having been worn by several of today’s stars, including Card B, Bruno Mars and Rihanna.

Cross Colours’ renaissance was led by its founders Carl Jones and TJ Walker, who took a bow at the end of the LA Swim Week show.

This is the second year Art Hearts Fashion, a platform for designers and artists to showcase their collections, has held swim week in LA. LA Swim Week is now the precursor to the popular Miami Swim Week, which takes place July 3-10.
