Wiz Khalifa Pays Homage to Tribe Called Quest Member with ‘Electric’ Remix

Wiz Khalifa joined the impressive roster of artists to pay their respects to recently deceased A Tribe Called Quest member Phife Dawg.

With his remix of the group’s classic “Electric Relaxation,” Khalifa paid homage to Phife Dawg amid an outpouring of tributes and reflection about the late rapper’s life and contributions to hip-hop.

From Kendrick Lamar to Outkast, members of the hip-hop community have shared what A Tribe Called Quest, and Phife Dawg’s lyrics and flow, have meant to them and their careers.

“Tribe Called Quest is everything, everything to me. There would not be no Outkast without [them], or if there was an Outkast, it wouldn’t be Outkast, it would be something completely different,” Andre 3000 said. “Tribe Called Quest was everything to me in high school. Just listening to Q-Tip run the verses and I remember just being really interested in vocabulary. He actually made me want to know more about words and use them as tools, words that you may not have even known before, he made it actually cool to use those words.”

On Khalifa’s “Electric Relaxation,” he trades bars with Phife Dawg, rapping “rolling up weed that’s my everyday / My ‘69 drop top got no ashtray / I smell a lot but baby girl I do not play / Hey yo my man Phife Diggy he got something to say.”
