Actors and Activists Discuss Cultural Divide at “ThenDiaspora Dialogues” Live Audience Taping

The cultural divide plaguing blacks globally was a hot topic during a recent taping of the talk show “The Diaspora Dialogues,” which aims to connect and correct the cultural divide between Africans in Africa and Africans descendants in the diaspora.

Held at the California African American Museum in LA, the show featured a panel of actors, models, producers and activists, who had a deep conversation that organizers hope will lead to a better understanding of the different experiences but shared identity of African across the globe.

Hosted by Actor Duain Richmond, the panel included Gina Yashere, Co-Creator, Writer, Producer of CBS’ “Bob Hearts Abishola”; Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing (“Love Is” “Hunter Street”), and Ebonee Davis (Model/Activist).

“Africans from the continent have African Privilege, they have a clear sense of identity and self, therefore they have no concept of what their African American, Caribbean and South American counterparts face daily from the results of oppression and their stolen identity. I am challenging us to lean in and lead with empathy on both sides,” said Koshie Mills, Diaspora Dialogues Creator and Executive Producer.

A number of actors and other celebrities were in attendance, including Kofi Siriboe, Shola Adewusi, and Kwesi Boakye.

The event also featured a spoken word performance from poet Yasmin Monet Watkins and a screening of a “The Diaspora Dialogues” episode.
