Irv Gotti and Popular Demand Host Screening for Season One Finale of BET’s “Tales” (PHOTOS/VIDEO)
Hip-hop mogul and producer Irv Gotti recently hosted a screening in Burbank, California, previewing the final episode of his scripted drama “Tales,” which airs Nov. 25 on BET.
Presented by LA-based streetwear clothing label Popular Brand, which is worn by various actors on the show, the screening also featured a Q&A session conducted by DJ Damage.
During the Q&A session, Gotti, a founder of hip-hop’s legendary Murder Inc. label, discussed how the show developed and how he first became interested in directing film and television programs. He also shared details about and working with Jay-Z to bring the exclusive director’s cut version of “Tales” and video interviews to Tidal. (See video below)
Billed as a hip-hop anthology show, “Tales” brings some of the genre’s biggest hits to life through scripted episodes. Examples of the hit songs that have been brought to life by “Tales” include NWA’s “F*ck the Police”, Notorious B.I.G.’s “I Got A Story to Tell”, Jay-Z’s “99 Problems, Meek Mill’s “Cold Hearted” and Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen.”
“Tales” also features a slew of both familiar and fresh-faced actors. Among the prominent actors appearing on this season’s “Tales” in various episodes include Woody McClain and Keith Powers from BET’s “New Edition Story”;Boris Kodjoe, Jennifer Freeman, Elise Neal, MC Lyte, Lance Gross, Christian Robinson, Matthew Noszka, Chet Hanks and Clifton Powell.
The two-hour season finale, which stars “All Eyez on Me” actor Demetrius Shipp Jr., actress Tami Roman of “Basketball Wives” and Harlem rapper Jim Jones, is based on the Method Man and Mary J. Blige duet “All I Need.”
Irv Gotti also shared some of his vision for season 2 of “Tales,” saying that he is interested in making more episodes out of today’s hip-hop anthems, including Migos’ “Slippery” and Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow,” which he says would recap her life thus far. (See video below)
The “Tales” screening brought out many actors, industry executives and influencers, including Mandela Van Peebles, Keith Powers, Camryn Howard, Gabriel “G-Rod” Rodriguez, Blake Ricciardi and Kevin Liles.
