Jay-Z, Beyonce: “We Believe in President Obama’s Vision”

Superstar couple Jay-Z and Beyonce hosted President Barack Obama and 100 guests for a lavish fundraiser benefiting Obama’s re-election campaign.

Held in New York at Jay-Z’s restaurant/lounge, the 40/40 Club, the event raised more than $4 million for the re-election campaign, which has sought to keep pace with the fundraising efforts of the Republican Nominee Gov. Mitt Romney.

In her introduction of the President, Beyonce reiterated her support of Obama, saying she and her husband “believe in his vision.”

During his remarks, Obama was in full-form, contrasting his vision for the country with that of Mitt Romney.

“We’re on the brink of an election, but more importantly, we’re on the brink of moving America in a direction where we’re going to be more just, more fair,” he said, according to the pool report. “The economy’s going to grow in a way that includes everybody, an America that’s respected around the world because we’re putting forward our best values and out best ideals.”

He also noted the similarities between himself and the power couple. “We remember what it’s like not having anything, and we know people who were just as talented as us that didn’t get the same break, the same chance,” Obama said, noting Jay-Z and Beyonce’s humble beginnings.

“We remember some of our parents or grandparents who came here as immigrants and got a little bit of help along the way to go to that school or be able to start that first business.”

The President also noted some commonality between him and Jay-Z. “Jay-Z now knows what my life is like,” he joked. “We both have daughters, and our wives are more popular than we are. So we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard, but it’s okay.”

During his latest New York visit, Obama appeared at a fundraiser at the Waldorf Astoria hotel and on The Late Show With Dave Letterman.
