Nas Makes Big Splash in Fashion with Ghostbusters Collection
Rap legend Nas is crossing over into the fashion and film industries in a big way. The Queens, N.Y. native, who has been in the rap game for over 20 years, is partnering with Sony Pictures to form a fashion collection inspired by the Ghostbusters movie franchise, which is slated to release a remake of the original 1984 film in July.
The collection, called Nas x Ghostbusters, teams the rapper/entrepreneur with six brands, covering streetwear from Nas’ personal clothing line, HSTRY; caps made by New Era; footwear by FILA; headphones from Monster; eyewear from Italia Independent and bikes made by Tokyobike.
A launch event was recently held at the Ron Herman Melrose store in Los Angeles. The event featured such fashion items as a desert camo, canvas jumpsuit inspired by the suits Ghostbusters uniforms, in addition to bikes and headphones inspired by the movie.
The streetwear portion of the collection, more specifically, Nas’ clothing line HSTRY, is the anchor of the collection. The HSTRY line was inspired by Nas’ experience growing up in Queens in the 1980s and 90s.
The recently launched HSTRY label has been growing its market. With the exposure the line could get from the Ghostbusters collaboration, it could gain an even larger audience. The HSTRY Ghostbusters collection will be sold online at hstryclothing.com beginning May 18.
In addition, online retailer HYPEBEAST, a leading online destination for men’s contemporary fashion and streetwear, will exclusively unveiled the Nas x Ghostbusters collection online at Hypebeast.com with a behind the scenes video and a lookbook featuring Nas modeling the clothes.
The collection will also be sold at Ron Herman in Los Angeles and at the luxury store Colette in Paris. To celebrate the collaboration, a launch event was hosted by Nas at the flagship Ron Herman Melrose store on May 14.
While on the surface the collaboration between the rapper and the Ghostbusters may seem odd, but the pairing works well, as Nas is a fan of the movies having grown up watching the films with his family.
“Ghostbusters was a staple childhood movie for me, one my mother took me to see, and I still love watching today with my son,” Nas said.
Because of the knowledge of the Ghostbusters franchise, Nas is able to interpret the characters and movies into such fashion-forward products.

Nas’ recently launched apparel brand, HSTRY, which pays homage to his own history growing up in the 80s and 90s. The HSTRY x Ghostbusters collection features an array of graphic tees, joggers and outerwear.

FILA x Ghostbusters collaboration features a variety of classic Heritage styles, including the Original Fitness, FX-100 and T-1 Mid silhouettes, which are offered in multiple colorways and decorated with the iconic Ghostbusters logo.

Brand – New Era
Inspired by the film’s iconic characters, the New Era x Ghostbusters collaboration will include a variety of cap styles and silhouettes, including Old Golfers and 9FIFTY snapbacks. Some caps will also feature a play on Nas’ famed lyrics, including “Slime State of Mind.” – a play on Nas’ hit song “NY State of Mind.”

The Italia Independent x Ghostbusters collaboration includes Italia Independent’s iconic models and oversize classical frames. The collection also offers classic shapes with Ghostbusters-inspired digital printed patterns decorated with the iconic Ghostbusters logo. The line will be sold at Italia Independent boutiques in New York, Paris, Miami, Milan.

The headphones, developed in collaboration with Nas’ fashion label, will feature a sleek platinum finish and white padded headband with the Ghostbuster logo emblazoned within its plush white ear cups.
