50 years of hip-hop was recently celebrated at the 2023 Culture Creators Innovators and Leaders Awards Brunch in Beverly Hills. 

Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel during BET Awards Weekend, the event brought out several pioneers of hip-hop, many of today’s most popular artists, actors, in addition to many music executives. 

Each year, the Culture Creators Brunch, celebrates, edifies, and highlights those in the culture who continue to produce excellence. Past honorees have included Andre Harrell, Russell Simmons, Sylvia Rhone, Byron Allen, Swizz Beatz and L.A. Reid. 

This year was no different, as Busta Rhymes, MC Lyte, Chloe x Halle, Troy Carter and Flau’jae Johnson were all recognized for their contributions to the culture. Other honorees included Karl Kani in fashion, Candace Rodney in business, Laurieann Gibson in art/dance, Chris Robinson in video/film and Stephen Hill in television.

“This year’s Innovators and Leaders Awards Brunch holds an unparalleled significance as we celebrate the golden 50th anniversary of hip-hop,” said Joi Brown, founder and CEO of Culture Creators. “We are thrilled to honor exceptional individuals who have profoundly impacted Black culture and hip-hop while also showcasing the enduring power of this global cultural phenomenon.”

Many celebrities were in the building at the Culture Creators Brunch, including Big Daddy Kane, Kash Doll, King Combs, Jimmy Jam, Tasha Smith, Muni Long, Teyonah Parris, Chante Moore and  Candiace Dillard Bassett .
