TV One recently screened its original biopic “The Bobby DeBarge Story” in Los Angeles, capping off a four-city screening tour that included stops in Atlanta, Miami and Washington, D.C.

Held at the Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood, the film debuted to a standing room only crowd that included some of Hollywood’s hottest entertainers.

On hand for the screening included cast member Roshon Fegan (Bobby DeBarge), Lloyd (Gregory Williams of Switch), Tyra Ferrell (Etterlene DeBarge), Blue Kimble (Tommy DeBarge), Adrian Marcel (James DeBarge), Marie L. Toussaint (Bunny DeBarge), Laila Odom (Teri DeBarge), Benjamin “Bruno” Rose (El DeBarge), Ethan McDowell (Robert DeBarge) and Rodman Munson(Chico DeBarge).

Also in attendance was the film’s director Russ Parr and the widow of Bobby DeBarge, Teri DeBarge.

Among the talent and VIP’s in attendance included A.J. Johnson, DomiNque Perry, Jasmine Sanders, Bobby DeBarge Jr., Darius McCrary, Kym Whitley, Obba Babatundé, Malinda Williams, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Amina Buddafly, Taja V. Simpson and members of the DeBarge family.

In one of the evening’s highlights, Bobby DeBarge Jr. and cast member Adrian Marcel surprised the audience with a special impromptu performance of DeBarge songs.

Following the screening, Hip Hollywood’s producer and correspondent Vanessa Barnett moderated a Q&A with cast members and creative team, sharing special behind-the-scene moments from the film. The evening concluded with an exclusive VIP reception complete with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.

“The Bobby DeBarge Story” continues TVOne’s tradition of highlighting inspirational music figures, as the movie explores the tumultuous life of the DeBarge, the former lead singer of the 70’s R&B/Funk Band Switch. He is also the eldest sibling of the world-famous pop group DeBarge.

But despite his success in music, the move shows how the iconic falsetto found his life in peril as he struggled with fame and fortune, while coping with the memories of his dysfunctional childhood.

“The Bobby DeBarge Story” reairs June 30 on at 9 p.m. EST / 8C and an encore at 11 p.m. EST / 10C on TV One.
