The “I Have A Dream” Foundation – Los Angeles recently honored several notable entertainers, including actress Regina King and comedian Larry Wilmore, for their support of education at the organization’s 5th Annual Dreamer Dinner.
After being presented the award by friend Vivica A. Fox, King accepted her honor with a video message she recorded while on-location in New York, where she is directing and producing a television pilot.
“I’ve had support all my life, but there are a lot of children who don’t, especially children of color, children of immigrant families…and they need the support of I Have A Dream LA,” King said.
Held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, the event also recognized Thom Sherman, Senior EVP of CBS Entertainment, and Greg Boyle, Founder of Homeboy Industries, a youth program that provides training and support to former gang members and previously incarcerated men and women.
The evening, which was hosted by actress and comedian Melissa Peterman, featured the awards ceremony, dinner and live auction.
Other celebrities in attendance at the dinner included actors Chad L. Coleman, Carlton Cuse, Jamie Hector, Isom Innis, Joel Johnstone, Sharon Lawrence, Allen Maldonado, Grace Parra, John Ridley and Carlson Young.
The “I Have A Dream” Foundation – Los Angeles (IHADLA) is the only educational organization that works with elementary school children through high school graduation and transitioning into college. The organization guarantees them tuition and support through their post-secondary education.
Since its founding in 1987, IHADLA has supported over 11,400 community individuals – the students, their parents and siblings.
