Women from the African diaspora recently came together to celebrate African culture and each other at Diaspora Dialogues’ 2nd Annual International Women of Power Luncheon,
Held in Marina del Rey Marriott in L.A., the luncheon was attended by a host of actors, musicians and dignitaries, who represented several locations, including Africa, the West Indies, U.K., and the United States.
With more than 400 guests, including many dressed in African-inspired clothing, this year’s event honored women trailblazers and trendsetters in the entertainment, business, fashion and other industries.
Hosted by actress Wendy Raquel Robinson, honorees included Tiffany Haddish (Entertainment ROAR Award), Ryan Destiny (Fashion Queen Award), Rosario Dawson (The Diaspora Dialogues Award), Nomzamo Mbatha (Goddess Beauty Award), and First Lady of Sierra Leone H.E. Fatima Maada Bio (Warrior Award). Presenters at the event included Malinda Williams, Raven Goodwin, and Edwina Findley Dickerson.
In addition to the presentations and speeches, guests were treated to a performance from V. Bozeman, famously known for the Fox show “Empire.”
The International Women of Power Luncheon is presented by Diaspora Dialogue, a platform founded by Koshie Mills, Hollywood mogul and the mother of “Queen Sugar” actor Kofi Soriboe, and actors Kwame Boateng and Kwesi Boakye.
This year the organization supported the Jenesse Center Inc., whose CEO, Karen Earl, delivered a powerful message highlighting their mission to provide victims of domestic violence centralized base of support with awareness.
