Rihanna Lives Up to Headliner Status at Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival
Jay-Z’s annual music festival, “Made in America,” now in its fifth year, is still going strong after featuring some of music’s top artists of today, including Lil’ Wayne, 2Chainz, Coldplay, Chance the Rapper, Desiigner and Rihanna, who was the headliner for the Labor Day Weekend blowout in Philadelphia.
About 46,000 people were on hand for the two-day festival, which featured an astonishing 70 artists, performing on four stages in Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The festival was also live-streamed on Jay-Z’s streaming service, TIDAL, which made the event available to both subscribers and non-subscribers.
Joining the list of Jay-Z’s friends to headline the festival was Rihanna, who breezed through a collection of her hits, both old and new, including “Work,” “Diamonds,” “Stay” and “Needed Me.”
Lil’ Wayne and 2Chainz, who have been performing songs from their joint “ColleGrove” album, which was released exclusively on TIDAL was the hip-hop headliner, as they performed some of both their joint and solo hits.
Other hip-hop and R&B acts of note were Tory Lanez, Lil Uzi Vert, Chance the Rapper, Travis Scott, A$AP Ferg, Bryson Tiller, Desiigner and Jay Electronica, who caused a stir when called on fans to “collapse” the stage.
In addition to the artists on stage, former President Bill Clinton, whose wife, Hillary, is engaged in a tight race for president, was on hand to promote voter registration. He was even seen having a conversation with Beyoncé, last year’s Made in America headliner, who was there to support her husband, Jay-Z.
