Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Charter School Officially Opens in Harlem

Sean “Diddy” Combs realized another one of his dreams recently with the opening of Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School, which he founded with the goal of providing a quality education to students in his native Harlem.

“I want Harlem to have the best schools…the best of everything” Diddy said in his address at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This year, the school enrolled 176 students in the sixth and seventh grades. The students were selected based on a lottery of about 1,000 applicants. By 2021, the school plans to expand its enrollment to about 700 students.

The charter school plans to expand to about 700 students in grades 6-12 by the year 2021.

The school is overseen by Capital Prep leader Steve Perry, who founded Capital Prep Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut in 2005.

Combs has had a busy summer with the graduation of his son from high school, the launch of Bad Boy Reunion Tour and with the school opening. Combs recently sat down for the Today Show for an interview, which he discusses the tour and the Harlem Charter School. Video of that interview can be found below.
