Stars and Athletes Pack Staples Center in LA for BIG3 Season Finale (PHOTOS)

It was a typical Sunday afternoon at the Staples Center in LA — with competitive basketball, celebrities sitting courtside and basketball fans from all walks of life. However, this basketball game didn’t feature the hometown Lakers or Clippers, it showcased past NBA players, who brought out all the stars for an exciting, and at times physical, three-on-three basketball.

More than 10,000 basketball fans were on hand for the regular season finale of Ice Cube’s BIG3 league, which recently pulled up to LA after a seven previous stops in such cities as New York (Brooklyn), Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas and Charlotte.

As was the case in other cities, the BIG3 game in LA was played in front of the biggest entertainers of today, as well as many current and former NBA players.

Among those at the BIG3 games in LA included boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya, Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade, singer Chris Brown, former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco Johnson, rapper/actor LL Cool J, Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, actor Jesse Williams, rapper Snoop Dogg, former NBA player Lamar Odom, rapper T-Pain, NBA analyst Kenny Smith, actor/comedian Martin Lawrence, singer Jeffrey Osborne, singer Raphael Saadiq, actor Pooch Hall, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, Los Angeles Clippers Assistant Coach Sam Cassell, NBA dad LaVar Ball, and high school basketball sensation LaMelo Ball.

The regular season finale had championship implications as Trilogy, 3 Monsters, Power and the Ghost Ballers all moved on to compete for the league championship.

The most exciting game of the day featured the undefeated Trilogy, led by Rashad McCants, Al Harrington and Kenyon Martin, versus the Killer 3s, who is led by Stephen Jackson, Brian Cook and player/coach Charles Oakley, who made his season debut.

The game featured swift drives to the basket, as well as physical play that was reminiscent of basketball in the 1990s. The crowd rose to their feet as Al Harrington fell to the floor, having been the recipient of a shot to the mouth from Oakley, who was known for his tough, physical defense during his 19-year NBA career. However, Harrington, who scored 16 points, received the last laugh by leading his team to victory with a 50-41 win.

Tri-State beat Power 51-42, and 3’s Company and coach Allen Iverson lost to the Ball Hogs, 50-47, and was subsequently eliminated from championship contention.

The BIG3 games featured more than basketball. The crowd at the LA game was treated to a performance from Snoop Dogg, who performed “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “The Next Episode.” The games also featured a four-point shootout between LaVar Ball, of the Big Baller Brand, and BIG3 co-founder Ice Cube, who edged out Ball to win the contest.

The BIG3 playoff will begin August 20 in Seattle. Under the BIG3 playoff format, all eight teams compete, but only the top four-seated teams are eligible to play for the championship, with the rest competing for consolation ranking. The championship game will be held August 26 in Las Vegas.

BIG3 games air on Fox Sports 1 on Monday Night Basketball at 5pm PST / 8pm EST.
