The life and legacy of Rick James was celebrated during a recent screening in LA for “Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James”—a new documentary about the funk/R&B icon’s life.
Released on Showtime earlier this month, the Sacha Jenkins documentary features footage of James’ live shows, never-before-seen home video and host of recorded interviews with James, who died of a heart attack 2004.
The Los Angeles screening follows a series of screenings across the country for the documentary, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York in June. Other screenings were held in Atlanta and Martha’s Vineyard to show the critically acclaimed documentary to friends, family, media, and other VIPs.
“Bitchin’” was executive produced by Peter Bittenbender and Jenkins for Mass Appeal, and Douglas Banker and his daughter, Ty James, who attended the LA screening.
Held at IPIC Theaters in Westwood, the screening was attended by several of James’ children, grandchildren, former manager Kerry Gordy, and a number of celebrities, including Christopher “Kid” Reid, Darius McCray, Shantel Jackson, Dennis Graham and more.
